Huts & Dens
Huts and dens give children covered, imaginative places to play, talk, read and retreat within the playground. Timber den-style choices include the Hobbit Den, Jungle Huts, Stilt Hut, Chalet Hut and Games Table Shelter.
Some designs create raised or enclosed den spaces, while others work better as open shelters, small social spaces or quieter corners within a wider playground.
Useful planning points include the age range, supervision, whether the space should feel enclosed or open, seating, role play, shelter from the weather, surfacing and how the structure fits around the rest of the playground.
